T1DM Research - Now Recruiting
Researchers at Children’s National Hospital and The George Washington University are conducting a research study about drinking sugar-free or low-sugar beverages in children 5-14 years old with type 1 diabetes. Children who participate will be randomly assigned to either replace their usual consumption of sugar-free/low-sugar beverages with unsweetened beverages (e.g., still or seltzer water), or to continue drinking their usual beverages for 12 weeks. Study participants will also be asked to meet with the study team four times (2 times at Children’s National Hospital for a blood draw, urine sample collection, and body composition scan, and 2 times virtually) and to complete questionnaires and food records between the visits. Compensation is provided.
