Pediatric Specialists of Virginia’s Suchitra Hourigan, MD – Pediatric Gastroenterologist & Director of Microbiome Research at Inova Translational Medicine Institute – was featured in National Public Radio’s Morning Edition article on her clinical research as Principal Investigator for the “Vaginal Microbiome Seeding and Health Outcomes in Cesarean-delivered Neonates” study.
The study covers vaginal seeding and how the procedure may help C-section babies develop healthy microbiomes similar to those babies born vaginally. If proven true, vaginal seeding could decrease the risk for diseases amongst babies born by C-section.
