Where did you grow up?
I grew up here in northern Virginia, specifically Loudoun County.
Why did you become a doctor and why did you choose your specialty?
I think I was always going to be an APP; nursing allowed me to build a solid foundation of patient interaction and hospital knowledge while also allowing me the ability to work part-time through graduate school. Being able to specialize in pediatrics, specifically acute care, was also an intentional choice.

As for hematology and oncology, my little brother died of a brain tumor in 2008. I thought I would run the other direction from this specialty, but I love the longitudinal relationships we develop with our families, and all the victories we get to celebrate. The intersection of compassion and very niche intelligence is so important to this field and I’m lucky to be a part of it!
How long have you practiced in the Washington, DC area and what do you like most about it?
I’ve worked in the healthcare setting here since 2017. I love the community feel of PSV & Inova, while appreciating our proximity to larger academic and research centers.
What do you most enjoy doing outside of your clinical practice, when you’re not working?
I love to read; I am always carrying a book with me. Otherwise, I can often be found training for a half-marathon, cycling the W&OD, or even kayaking. I love to go hiking and visit local wineries with my dog! And I love a good pub trivia night.
Do you volunteer? If so, where?
I am on the board of the DC-area APHON chapter; currently, I serve as the program coordinator and secretary.
If you weren’t a doctor, what profession would you most likely be doing and why?
Oh, I have so many imagined careers. I still think about going to law school. Or maybe I’d be a florist. Truly, I’d love to be an heiress who orchestrates fabulous charity galas all day. Or own a bed & breakfast in the south of France.
