Dr. Catherine Chao is a pediatric gastroenterologist specializing in digestive and liver disorders. With board certification from the American Board of Pediatric Gastroenterology, she focuses on gastrointestinal motility issues (GERD, constipation, encopresis), inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, abdominal pain, and failure to thrive.
Dr. Chao earned her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University before completing her medical education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1991. She completed her pediatrics residency and a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at UCLA Medical Center in 1994 and 1997, respectively.
Her research contributions include co-authoring a multicenter report on multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (MII-pH) in children and studying pediatric rare earth magnet ingestions.
