Dr. Joanne Dekis is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip preservation at Pediatric Specialists of Virginia (PSV), with board eligibility in orthopaedic surgery. She has clinical interests in fracture care, hip dysplasia, Perthes disease, slipped capital femoral epiphysis, hip disorders, limb deformities, skeletal dysplasia, cerebral palsy, and clubfoot.
Dr. Dekis completed her fellowship training at the Hospital for Special Surgery in hip preservation (2022) and at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles in pediatric orthopaedics (2021). She also completed her residency at SUNY Downstate (2020) and earned her medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (2015), following her undergraduate studies at Princeton University (2008).
Her research contributions include publications on pediatric orthopaedic care and injury epidemiology in youth sports. Dr. Dekis grew up in North New Jersey and was inspired to become a doctor by her mother’s experience with hip dysplasia, which highlighted the transformative impact of surgical intervention on quality of life. She enjoys working with children, motivated by the opportunity to address health issues early in life.
Outside of her clinical practice, Dr. Dekis enjoys spending time with family and friends, baking, listening to music, reading, watching fantasy shows, and exercising on her Peloton. She sees patients at PSV’s Ashburn and Fairfax clinics.
