Pediatric Specialists of Virginia (PSV) and Anthem to Conclude Network Participation Effective April 1, 2026

Pediatric Specialists of Virginia (PSV) announced today that after nearly 13 years, its contract with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield (Anthem) will end effective April 1, 2026. PSV and Anthem were unable to agree on new contract terms. This change impacts both Anthem Medicaid and Anthem Commercial health plan members.

PSV is committed to supporting patients, families, and referring providers during this transition. A structured transition period will run from April 1 through June 29, 2026, to help ensure continuity of care and provide time for patients to evaluate their options.

Commercial Members

As of April 1, 2026, PSV will be out-of-network for Anthem Commercial plans. Depending on individual plan benefits, some patients with an out-of-network benefit may be able to continue their care at PSV. Patients without an out-of-network benefit will need to transition their care to another pediatric specialist.

  • Anthem Commercial members should contact Anthem Member Services at 1-855-879-6180 to determine whether their plan includes out-of-network benefits or continuity-of-care options.
  • PSV may continue to accept new Anthem Commercial patients after April 1, 2026, if their health plan benefits contain an out-of-network option.

Medicaid Members

PSV will continue to see established Anthem Medicaid patients during the transition period (April 1–June 29, 2026) while families arrange ongoing care.

  • Anthem Medicaid members should contact Anthem Member Services at 1-800-901-0020 to understand their options and express any concerns.
  • Patients who wish to continue treatment with their established PSV physician may request to switch to another Virginia Medicaid health plan. Because this request may fall outside the standard open enrollment period, members must contact Virginia Medicaid and explain their desire to remain with their current PSV specialist for continuity of care. Contact Virginia Medicaid Office at 1-800-643-2273 to initiate this request.
  • PSV participates with all other Virginia Medicaid managed care plans, including:
    • Aetna Better Health
    • Humana Healthy Horizons
    • Sentara Community Plan
    • UnitedHealthcare Community Plan

Please note: PSV will not accept new Anthem Medicaid patients beginning April 1, 2026. Medicaid patients who are unable to change their Medicaid plan will need to transition care to another specialist outside of PSV by June 29, 2026.

Information for Referring Providers

Referring providers with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact Anthem’s Network Manager at 804-354-4072. PSV remains dedicated to maintaining strong collaborative relationships with community providers and will work closely to support patient transitions when necessary.

PSV’s priority remains delivering high-quality, specialized pediatric care to children and families across the region. The organization is committed to minimizing disruption and ensuring families and referring partners have clear guidance as they navigate next steps.
